LARTS 329 Shakespeare: The Comedies

William Shakespeare’s comedies are inspired by music and have in turn inspired some of the world's greatest music. This course will set the comedies A Midsummer Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, As You Like It, and (the Romance) The Tempest in the social-political context of Elizabethan and Jacobean England. If possible, students will attend at least one play in performance. They will also have the opportunity to act scenes in class and set passages to music.
