THYG 527T Music Creation & Performance Technology

The course aims to expose students to the variegated world of music enhanced by technological solutions. Students will develop analytical approaches to tackle heterogenous musical works and draw inspiration from it. Concurrently, students will engage in the realization of collaborative creative projects featuring music technological.

The goal is to broaden students’ knowledge of repertoire, analytical skills and to equip them with the necessary electro-acoustic and computer-based technologies to support, enhance and develop students’ theoretical, creative and artistic output. To this end they will develop knowledge in perceptual, genetic and computer-aided analytical approaches, digital signal processing and programming, network design across platforms, augmentation solutions for acoustic instruments, new instrumental practices, and new rehearsal techniques. Throughout the semester, the class will engage as a community discussing analytical work on pertinent repertoire and performing as a collective in various scenarios of music-making-processes, and advancing artistic exchange.

At the end of the course, the successful students will have developed aural awareness of typical digital signal processes and formal design, structure a complete audio/musical production cycle (the project’s conception, formalization, design, of the necessary technology networks), and curation of its realization.
