CMP 411T Sixteenth-Century Counterpoint

Mastery of Renaissance counterpoint through the careful analysis, writing, and performance of Lassus’s two-voice motets. Mastery of the style and compositional technique are demonstrated through the continuous writing of canons and motets. Readings in Pietro Aaron, Listenius, Aldrich, and Wittkower. A final portfolio of work is required and will contain canons at every interval and two motets. Course number restricted to Composition majors; all other undergraduates students register for THYU 411T.
