VC 431 French Vocal Repertoire

Through the study of selected French songs in a masterclass setting, students will develop skills in analysis and intrepretation and gain an understanding of the development of the Mélodie genre in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Student presentations, classroom discussions, and exercises in critical listening will address issues of test setting, lyric diction, performance practice, musical and dramatic interpretation, and important trends in musical and literary aesthetics.
