Each student in the Concentration will spend a semester working with a chosen faculty advisor to create a directed study plan leading to the realization of a technology-based semester project aligning with the student’s area(s) of interest. The resulting project will demonstrate a high level of competence with any technologies employed as well as an awareness of current creative and technical work in the field achieved through faculty-advised and self-directed research. Areas may include, among others, performance with electronics and multimedia, scoring for new media, synthesis, real-time processing, spatialization, recording/ mixing, technology-based analysis techniques, algorithmic music, etc. If feasible, the project should culminate with a performance, diffusion, or installation at NEC or elsewhere. Students will be required to submit a brief paper detailing their projects and situating their work in the context of recent research and creative work in the field employing technologies relevant to the focus of the project.
