In particular, we will investigate musical feedback loops between Latin America and Africa. Emphasis will be put on exploring traditions in transformation. The result is a comparative study of styles, dances, and instruments, with a certain emphasis given to the development of critical listening skills. There will be a particular focus on the musics of Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico, among others. Readings will be supplemented by various links, films, as well as the Latin American audio selections.
