LARTS 490I Advanced Seminar: Boston and NEC

The Advanced Seminar, Boston and N.E.C. will invite students to participate not only on traditional issues of critical reading, content analysis and creative writing, but also in project-based learning, exploring arts and cultural organizations in Boston as a way of better understanding issues of such cultural institutions, of community, and of the intersection of artistic, economic and social ambitions in the urban world of the 21st century.

Students will meet in a weekly seminar, with weekly assignments focused on readings, viewings, and presentations by guest artists. Taking advantage of the new curricular structure, we will then dedicate the third hour of instruction to bi-weekly group meetings, where students will explore their own individual projects focused on learning about, evaluating, and communicating their insights on local arts and cultural institutions as they affect the lives of the greater Boston community.
