COND 551T Development & Literature of the Orchestra
To trace the development of the orchestra from its earliest beginnings as a renaissance band, through its evolution in Baroque opera, to classical court duties, to middle class iconic institution and finally to its monolithic, but precarious, standing today. Various foci will be on literature development, evolution of instrument technology; with an added reflection on how various eras embraced and nurtured the orchestra to reflect their cultural priorities.
