CMP 516 Composition and Tonality in the 18th and 19th Centuries
This course will explore a wide range of nineteenth-century composition techniques and concepts within the framework of tonality. Our study will be guided by analysis and model compositions based on a variety of forms in the style of nineteenth century masters. Composers to be considered will include Berlioz, Brahms, Chopin, Liszt, Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, Mussorgsky, Schubert, Clara and Robert Schumann, Tchaikovsky, and Wagner.
