CEPS 526T Music, Brain Development, and Learning

In this course, students will learn about how the brain processes and responds to the basic building block of music (pitch, rhythm, melody, harmony, etc.), as well as what happens to music perception when there are different forms of brain damage. The class will also look at how musical training changes both brain structure and the brain’s response to music. Students will learn how to read and interpret scientific studies, culminating in independent projects at the end of the semester where students will investigate and present on topics of particular interest to them in the realm of music and neuroscience.
