Financial Aid

NEC awards financial aid, which includes scholarships, grants, and assistantships on the basis of musical ability, satisfactory academic progress, and financial need. NEC participates in Title IV Federal Student Aid programs, including the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Direct Stafford Loans (Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized), Direct PLUS Loan (both for graduate students as well as the parents of dependent, undergraduate students), and the Federal Work-Study program.

New students interested in any amount of financial assistance at NEC must complete the required application to be considered for an award.

In addition, all students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens (e.g. Permanent resident) must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA assists the Financial Aid office in determining a student’s financial need and confirming eligibility to participate in federal student aid programs. If Federal Financial Aid is not needed, please contact the Financial Aid office to waive this requirement.

Returning students who are meeting NEC’s academic standards remain eligible for possible renewal for as long as they are working toward the same degree/diploma and are enrolled at least half- time. Students must be enrolled full-time in order to receive the same NEC scholarship funding each year. Those enrolled less than full-time are subject to a review of their NEC scholarship.
