PRCBR 545T Suzuki-Inspired Brass Pedagogy
This course will help students develop the skills necessary to establish their own studios of young brass players. Taught by Suzuki registered trombone teacher James Markey, enrolled students will learn Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s modeling-based philosophies and the brass-specific pedagogy necessary to apply them to teaching their respective instruments to young players. Students will be evaluated based on a combination of their performance of the Suzuki Trumpet Book I repertoire on their respective instruments, their reports following each week’s assignment of lesson observation and/or reading, and participation in class discussion. Reading assignments will come from Dr. Suzuki’s book, Nurtured by Love. This course qualifies for credit towards the Teaching Artistry concentration. *Please note that at this time, the course does not yet fulfill requirements for participants to register with the Suzuki Association of the Americas as Suzuki teachers.
